Zhu Hong: Emerging with Colours

This October, Cape of Good Hope Art Gallery is delighted to present a major exhibition by prominent Singapore-based artist, Zhu Hong. The show ; ‘Emerging of Colours’ will include a vibrant range of new works by the artist which expresses the diverse array of street scenes of Singapore. This collection aims to not only bring out a feeling of nostalgia but also cultivate an appreciation for our local heritage and culture.

In the early beginnings of his art career, Zhu Hong set his sights on shaping a revolutionary artistic style. He overlooks a conventional perspective, abrogated shadows, dismissing the academic fundamentals of line and colour. In his creations, Zhu Hong’s expresses his understanding of, and passion for architecture through the way he captures the essence of a street and its immediate surroundings.

By injecting his audacious technique into what is supposedly one of the most traditional and timeless mediums in Western art, his oil depictions are like no other. Finally, he strives to inspire his viewers to appreciate and observe scenes that are exceptional yet neglected due to their daily routines. There are charming streets, back alleys and shops in Singapore, Zhu Hong has singlehandedly reminded us of that.
