Singaporean artist Tung Yue Nang is famous for creating paintings depicting the hustle and bustle of Chinatown, beautiful scenes along the Singapore River as well as daily life at Joo Chiat.
These creations which are filled with numerous details reflect the artist’s mastery of the ink medium and fine observation skills as he paints on site. With the illustration of shophouses and modern buildings in Tung Yue Nang compositions, his paintings have become artistic records of the urban landscape in Singapore. With the inclusion of passersby going about different activities, his paintings have also become a unique documentation of life in this country.
Tung Yue Nang was awarded the first prize in the Ink Painting Category at the Annual Dr Tan Tze Chor Art Awards organised by the Singapore Art Society in 2002, 2014 and 2019.
