Mr Lim Leong Seng expresses the fading of memories and the vanishing impressions of the hardworking Samsui Women who played an significant role in the early stages of Singapore’s nation building. This sculpture marks Lim Leong Seng’s latest development and interpretation of the figure of the Samsui Woman since he started working on them in the early 2000s.

He has also created sculptures out of repurposed everyday objects in “Lim Leong Seng’s New Era (1976, remade 2022)”. Here he made a column of air-filled plastic bags attached to a string and suspended from the ceiling of The Spine Hall. Reflecting on a new era in time when plastic bags had been introduced to Singapore, Lim repurposes these humble disposable receptacles into aesthetic objects.

Mr Lim also recently had a book launch titled “Lim Leong Seng: Journey from the Wilderness” at the National Gallery Singapore on November 2022.
