This composition by Tung Yue Nang is one which is hardly seen amongst Singaporean ink painters who are more accustomed to painting the Singapore river and the shophouses lining the river. Tung Yue Nang explores the region surrounding the river and opted for an interesting position at Anderson Bridge right outside the Victoria theatre. He then focused on depicting the aged old tree, highlighting the twisting and turnings of the branches, expertly suggesting the ones which are nearer or further away from the viewer with different shades of the ink medium. The alternate point of discussion would be the portrayal of passersby which was a true enough record as the humongous tree provided enough shade on a hot and humid dauy and there were railings for people to lean on. Overall, this is a audacious painting by Tung Yue Nang which well reflects his mastery of the ink and brush.

Tung Yue Nang was awarded the first prize at the Annual Dr Tan Tze Chor Art Awards Ink Painting Category in 2002, 2014 and 2019. Cape of Good Hope Art Gallery organised a solo exhibition for Tung Yue Nang in 2014 titled Silence: Ink Paintings by Tung Yue Nang.
