This exhibition features a collection of portrait paintings by artists from China such as Zhang Yi Bo, Li Zi Jian and Zeng Chuan Xing. Also on display would be paintings created by well known local artists such as Ang Ah Tee, Chua Ek Kay, Lim Tze Peng, Liu Kang and Tan Choh Tee. The event would be held at ION Art Gallery, ION Orchard level 4 from 28 June to 6 July 2025.

Guo Jin 郭晋

Guo Jin is a 61-year-old Chinese oil painter who received his Bachelor of Fine Art in Oil Painting in Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts and has been teaching at his alma mater since 1990.

Guo’s art invites viewers into a dreamlike world shaped by memory and time. From his early works depicting child-like figures to his later works of trees and birds at dusk, his work blends the nostalgia of fairy tales with a distortion of reality to create a sense of mystery and quiet emotion.

He held his first solo exhibition at the Chinese Contemporary Art Gallery in London in 1998 and his work has since been exhibited extensively around the world including Singapore, Shanghai, New York, Rome, Budapest and Amsterdam.

郭晋是一位61岁的中国油画家，毕业于四川美术学院油画系，获得美术学学士学位，自1990年起便在母校任教至今。

郭晋的艺术作品仿佛邀请观者走进一个由记忆与时间交织而成的梦幻世界。从早期描绘童稚人物的作品，到后来以黄昏中的树木与鸟类为主题的画作，他的艺术风格将童话般的怀旧情感与现实的扭曲相融合，营造出神秘而宁静的情绪氛围。

1998年，郭晋在伦敦的中国当代艺术画廊首次举办个展，作品后来也在世界各地展出，包括新加坡、上海、纽约、罗马、布达佩斯和阿姆斯特丹等地。

Li Shuji 李树基

Li Shuji is a 82 year-old Chinese oil painter born in Dalian, China, and is currently living and working in Singapore and Indonesia. In 1968, Li graduated from Shenyang Luxun Academy before studying at the Liaoning Academy of Painting.

Li is an experienced artist whose travel-inspired oil portraits feature striking Asian figures in rich and meaningful settings. His work beautifully blends Western painting techniques with the essence of Chinese culture.

Li is one of few painters who has been received multiple times by foreign heads of state. He has painted portraits for leaders like Indonesian's President Suharto and Singapore's founding father Lee Kuan Yew and former Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. His large-scale piece titled "Overseas Chinese - Mother of the Revolution' remains a treasured piece in Singapore's Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall.

He is currently a member of the Chinese Artists Association and the Vice-President of the Liaoning Painting Institute.

李树基是一位82岁的中国油画家，出生于中国大连，目前在新加坡和印度尼西亚生活与创作。1968年，他毕业于沈阳鲁迅美术学院，随后进入辽宁画院深造。

李是一位经验丰富的艺术家，其油画肖像多受旅行启发，作品中的亚洲人物形象鲜明，背景富有意义。他的作品巧妙地融合了西方绘画技法与中国文化的精髓，展现出独特的艺术魅力。

李是少数多次受到外国元首接见的画家之一，曾为多位领导人绘制肖像，包括印尼总统苏哈托、新加坡国父李光耀及前总理吴作栋。他的大型画作《华侨——革命之母》至今仍是新加坡孙中山南洋纪念馆的重要藏品。

李树基现为中国美术家协会会员，并担任辽宁画院副院长。

Li Zijian 李自健

Li Zijian is a 71 year-old American-based Chinese oil painter born in Shaoyang City, Hunan Province, China. He has been painting since 15 and is known for his hyper-realistic paintings. In 1982, he graduated from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts with a major in oil painting. In 1988, he moved to the United States of America, residing in Los Angeles as a professional painter and has since become a permanent resident.

In 1993, he held his first exhibition in Taiwan and since then his work has been exhibited all over the globe under the recurring theme of “Humanity and Love” which has toured over 50 times across 30 countries, including Germany, France, Singapore and the Philippines.

Li is currently a special overseas member of the Oil Painting Department of the Chinese National Academy of Arts, a member of the Chinese Artists Association and American Oil Painting Society.

李自健是一位71岁的旅美华人油画家，出生于中国湖南省邵阳市。自15岁起便开始绘画，以其超写实的油画作品闻名。1982年，李自健毕业于广州美术学院油画专业。1988年，他移居美国，定居洛杉矶成为职业画家，并取得美国永久居留权。

李的作品融合了深厚的文化历史感与现实主义风格。1993年，他在台湾举办首次个展，自此，其“人性与爱”为主题的作品在全球多个国家展出。他的个人巡回展览包含百余幅油画，至今已在德国、法国、新加坡、菲律宾等30多个国家举办超过50场展览。

李的作品在中国长沙李自健美术馆的李自健油画展厅中长期展出。他现为中国国家画院油画院特邀海外画家、中国美术家协会会员及美国油画家协会会员。

Su Xinping 苏新平

Born in Jining District, Inner Mongolia, 65 year-old Su Xinping is recognised as one of the foremost figures in Chinese contemporary art. In 1983, he graduated from the Tianjin Institute of Fine Arts in 1983 where he majored in Painting and Printmaking Instructions.

Su’s work shows lifelike figures–herdsmen, workers, even himself–frozen in ritual-like poses stripped of context. This creates a paradox of presence without meaning that feel both powerful and empty, while also capturing the quiet tension between tradition and modern life.

Su’s work has been exhibited all over the world in cities such as Hong Kong, Beijing, New York, Paris, Osaka, Melbourne and Boston. His work is also collected by both public and private collectors around the world, including The National Gallery Australia, the Yokohama Art Gallery and the Ludwig Museum.

苏新平，65岁，出生于内蒙古集宁区，是中国当代艺术领域最具代表性的艺术家之一。1983年，他毕业于天津美术学院，主修绘画与版画教学。

苏新平的作品常以逼真的人物为主题——牧民、工人，甚至是他自己——这些人物以类似仪式的姿态静止于画面中，脱离具体语境，形成一种“有之无义”的矛盾感。这种处理方式既传递出力量，又带有空寂之感，同时展现出传统与现代生活之间的静谧张力。

他的作品曾在世界各地展出，包括香港、北京、纽约、巴黎、大阪、墨尔本和波士顿等地。其作品亦被众多公共与私人机构收藏，其中包括澳大利亚国家美术馆、横滨美术馆以及路德维希博物馆。

Xu Weixin 徐唯辛

Xu Weixin is a 67 year-old Chinese oil painter born in Ürümqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Northwest China. In 1987, he obtained his Masters in Oil Painting from the Zhejiang Academy of Art in Hangzhou, China. In 2001, Xu began teaching at the Xu Beihong School of Arts at the Renmin University of China. In 2005 Xu was appointed vice-secretary of the Beijing Oil Painting Society.

Xu is currently a professor and the former executive dean at the Xu Beihong School of Arts, a executive committee member of the China Oil Painting Association, a member of the Oil Painting Art Committee of the Chinese Artists’ Associations, as well as a visiting scholar of the Department of History at the University of California, Berkeley. He is currently living and working in New York and Beijing.

徐唯辛是一位现年67岁的中国油画家，出生于中国西北部新疆维吾尔自治区首府乌鲁木齐。1987年，他在杭州的浙江美术学院获得油画硕士学位。2001年，徐唯辛开始在中国人民大学徐悲鸿艺术学院任教。2005年，他被任命为北京油画学会副秘书长。

他近期的创作以一系列单人肖像为主。这些人物在同一历史时期或相似环境下生活，而作品巧妙地将个体故事与集体记忆交织在一起。

徐的作品曾在台北、北京、上海、首尔、纽约以及瑞士马蒂尼等城市展出。他也获得多项奖项，包括凭借作品《馕坑》荣获首届中国油画展优秀奖，以及以作品《工棚》获得第十届全国美展银奖。

徐唯辛目前是中国人民大学徐悲鸿艺术学院教授、前执行院长，中国油画学会理事，中国美术家协会油画艺术委员会委员，同时也是美国加州大学伯克利分校历史系访问学者。他目前在纽约和北京两地生活与创作。

Ye Yongqing 叶永青

Ye Yongqing is a 67-year-old Chinese oil painter born in Kunming, Yunnan Province. In 1982, he graduated Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing with a major in oil painting. He is currently serving as a professor there.

Influenced by modernism, Ye’s early works adopted late Impressionist and Expressionist techniques to portray natural settings with emotional clarity. Over time, he has shifted towards minimalism and symbolism, with recurring motifs like birds that combined Duchamp’s conceptual ideas with Chinese philosophies of emptiness and essence

Ye’s work has been exhibited widely in cities including Beijing, London, Paris, Seong, Munich and Singapore. His paintings are held in public and private collections around the world.

叶永青，67岁，中国油画家，出生于云南昆明。1982年毕业于重庆四川美术学院油画系，目前任教于该院。

受现代主义影响，叶早期作品运用后印象派与表现主义技法，细腻描绘自然景观中的情感氛围。其后创作逐渐转向极简主义与象征主义，常以“鸟”为母题，融合杜尚的观念艺术与中国哲学中的“空”与“有”。

叶永青的作品曾在北京、伦敦、巴黎、首尔、慕尼黑、新加坡等地广泛展出，并被全球多家公共与私人机构收藏。

Zeng Chuanxing 曾传兴

Zeng Chuanxing is a 51 year-old Chinese oil painter born in Longchang County, Sichuan Province. In 1998, he graduated from Central Nationalities University, Beijing, with a major in oil painting.

Zeng portrays ethnic minority women with delicate realism, often using muted tones to evoke a quiet, melancholic mood. His works reflect a deep emotional connection to minority cultures and offer subtle commentary on China's cultural transitions.

He has received several awards, including the Silver Medal at the 2002 “Commemorating Mao Zedong’s Speech at the Yan’an Forum” exhibition at the Hunan Museum and the Copper Medal at the 2005 “6th Bai Hua Prize of Nationalities” in Beijing.

Zeng's paintings have been exhibited across China, including at the Beijing Yan-Huang Art Museum, the Hunan Museum in Changsha, and the Guangdong Art Museum in Guangzhou. He currently lives and works in Changde, China.

曾传兴是一位现年51岁的中国油画家，出生于四川省隆昌县。1998年，他毕业于北京的中央民族大学，主修油画专业。

曾擅长以细腻写实的风格描绘少数民族女性，常以柔和的色调营造出宁静而略带忧郁的氛围。他的作品展现了对少数民族文化的深厚情感，并隐含着对中国文化转型的细腻观察与思考。

他曾获得多个奖项，包括2002年在湖南博物馆举办的“纪念毛泽东《在延安文艺座谈会上的讲话》发表”美术作品展中荣获银奖，以及2005年在北京举办的第六届“民族百花奖”中荣获铜奖。

曾传兴的作品曾在中国多地展出，包括北京炎黄艺术馆、长沙的湖南博物馆和广州的广东美术馆。他目前居住并创作于中国常德市。

Zhai Xinjian 翟欣建

Zhai Xin Jian is a 75 year-old Chinese oil painter born in Tianjin, China. In 1981, he graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) and subsequently began his teaching career at the affiliated high school. In 1986, he was appointed as a visiting lecturer at the Tokyo University of the Arts. In 2010, he started teaching at the design school in CAFA and retired 2 years later.

Zhai’s paintings are characterised by a harmonious balance of form, rhythm, and spatial composition. His work shows a strong love for traditional beauty and the gentle, graceful style seen in Eastern art.

Zhai’s works has been published in various art magazines and catalogues, and is a recognised oil painter in China. In 1982, Zhai received the second prize at the Beijing Fine Art Exhibition. His artworks have also been exhibited internationally, including the Hefner Gallery in New York.

翟欣建是一位生于天津的75岁中国油画家。1981年，他毕业于中央美术学院油画系，随后在附中任教。1986年，被日本东洋美术学院聘为客座讲师。2010年，转到中央美术学院城市设计学院任教并在两年后退休。

他的作品强调形式、节奏与空间的和谐统一，展现出对传统美感和东方艺术温润风格的深厚喜爱。

翟的作品曾刊登于多本艺术杂志和画册中，是一位知名的油画家。1982年，油画《心灵的歌》获“北京市优秀美术作品二等奖”。翟欣建的作品也曾在世界多地展出，其中包括纽约的Hefner画廊。

Zhang Jian 章剑

Zhang Jian is a 57 year-old Chinese oil painter born in Beijing, China. In 1993, he graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts where he majored in fresco painting.

His early impressionist works were straightforward and grounded, while his later development evolved towards a more documentary approach.

In 2002, Zhang held his first solo exhibition at the Beijing Hanmo Gallery. He later held solo exhibitions in various countries including South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Italy and Germany.

His work has been collected by private and public collectors, including the Museum Folkwang in Germany and the Guangdong Museum of Art in China.

章剑，57岁，是一位出生于北京的中国油画家。1993年毕业于中央美术学院，主修壁画艺术。

章剑早期的印象派风格作品质朴直接，后来逐渐发展为更具纪录性质的表现方式。

2002年，他在北京翰墨美术馆举办了首次个人展览，之后又在韩国、新加坡、泰国、意大利及德国等国家举办个展。

其作品被多个公共及私人收藏机构收藏，其中包括德国的福尔克旺博物馆（Museum Folkwang）和中国的广东美术馆。

Zhang Yibo 张义波

Zhang Yibo is a 59 year-old oil painter from Nantong, Jiangsu. In 1961, he graduated from the East China Branch of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), and is now a professor and head of the Painting Department of CAFA's City Design School.

Zhang is a realist oil painter known for his hyperrealistic and timeless portraits that often feature women in quiet, everyday moments lit by natural light. His work emphasises light, texture and emotional stillness.

In 2004, he visited over 40 museums across Europe, deepening his understanding of Western painting and influencing his artistic direction. He draws inspiration from Impressionism, especially in his use of colour and light to convey emotion.

Zhang's work has been exhibited globally, including New York, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Canada.

张义波是一位现年59岁的油画家，来自江苏南通。1961年，他毕业于中央美术学院华东分院，现任中央美术学院城市设计学院绘画系教授兼系主任。

张是一位现实主义油画家，以超写实且富有永恒感的肖像作品闻名，作品常以女性在日常宁静片刻中的形象为题材，并以自然光照营造出独特氛围。他的作品强调光影、质感与情绪的静谧。
