Over the weekends, Foo Chee San would travel to places such as Fatimah Kampung at Woodlands or Loyang to have a feel of how people lived in the past and to be inspired for his own art creation process. According to Foo Chee San, many artists of his generation would take a 2-day bus ride to the East Coast of Malaysia to have a look and contemplate on the living style of the local fishermen. He observed that it’s very different there, the houses they lived in, this fishing boats and tools used to catch fish were all very different from those in Singapore and these were the things which inspired artists of that generation to create and paint passionately.
