Foo Chee San’s depiction of villages are a homage to his experiences as a child living in a village and travelling from China to Southeast Asia when he was 8. He completed his primary and secondary school studies in Malaya before coming to Singapore in 1953. He was thus familiarised with the villages and simple style of living which was very common in the early days.
